"Thébaïde, ou les Frères Ennemis" is a tragic play written by the famous French playwright Jean Racine. It was one of Racine's early works, written before he gained widespread recognition as a playwright.The play is set in the ancient city of Thebes and revolves around the conflict between two brothers, Eteocles and Polynices, who are both vying for control of the city. The plot is deeply entwined with themes of power, ambition, and familial strife. The prophecy of the city's destruction and the intervention of the gods also play a significant role in the unfolding tragedy.While "Thébaïde" is not as well-known as some of Racine's later tragedies, it showcases his talent for exploring complex human emotions and moral dilemmas. Racine's use of classical themes and language is evident in this early work.

Bérénice est une tragédie en cinq actes (comportant respectivement 5, 5, 4, 8 et 7 scènes) et en vers (1506 alexandrins) de Racine représentée pour la première fois le 21 novembre 1670 à l'Hôtel de Bourgogne, avec sa nouvelle actrice vedette, Marie Champmeslé dans le rôle-titre. L'épître dédicatoire est adressée à Colbert. Racine a voulu conserver l'image idéalisée d'un Titus renonçant à l'amour pour obéir à la raison d'État, qui s'est installée dans l'imaginaire sous l'influence de l'historien Suétone. On peut voir ainsi dans cette tragédie comme un reflet de la monarchie absolue et de l'exemplarité de Louis XIV. La princesse Palatine, puis Voltaire se feront l'écho de l'analogie qui était née dans l'esprit de certains contemporains entre cette histoire et la renonciation fameuse du jeune Louis XIV à Marie Mancini lors du Traité des Pyrénées, qui lui avait imposé le mariage avec l'Infante d'Espagne.

La Thébaïde ou les Frères ennemis est une tragédie en cinq actes (comportant respectivement 6, 4, 6, 3 et 6 scènes) et en vers (1516 alexandrins) de Jean Racine (la première de l'auteur) représentée, sans grand succès, le 20 juin 1664 au Palais-Royal. Elle a pour sujet le combat et la mort des deux jeunes fils d'OEdipe, ainsi que celle de leur soeur Antigone. Ce sujet avait déjà occupé bien des auteurs avant Racine. Ainsi, ce jeune dramaturge encore assez inexpérimenté s'inspire notamment de: l'Antigone de Sophocle, des Phéniciennes d'Euripide, mais surtout de l'Antigone de Rotrou ainsi que de la facture des tragédies de Corneille. Il est également fort probable que pour cette première pièce, Molière, par qui la pièce devait être jouée, ait contribué à sa rédaction. Étéocle et Polynice, les deux frères ennemis, se combattent avec fureur, malgré les supplications de leur mère Jocaste et de leur soeur Antigone, malgré le noble dévouement de leurs deux cousins, Ménécée et Hémon, fils de Créon. Tous ces personnages sans exception sont tués, se tuent ou meurent de douleur au cours de la pièce. Leurs caractères sont encore assez faiblement dessinés: Étéocle et Polynice sont d'une violence monotone, Jocaste lasse par ses déclamations plus qu'elle ne touche, Créon est un traître bien noir et bien cynique. Pourtant les beaux vers ne sont pas rares dans cette pièce, qui fut le coup d'essai, encore hésitant, d'un grand poète.
