Die sechs Stücke dieser kleinen Suite entstanden zwischen 1893 und 1896 inspiriert durch Hélène Bardac, der Tochter einer befreundeten Sängerin. Das 1892 geborene Mädchen wurde wegen ihrer kleinen, zarten Gestalt "Dolly" (Püppchen) genannt. Die überwiegend zum Geburtstag oder Neujahr komponierten Nummern spiegeln die Erlebniswelt des heranwachsenden Kindes wider, vom Wiegenlied bis zum temperamentvollen Tanz. Aber so ganz ernst war das Ganze nicht gemeint, wie die subtilen Anspielungen an eigene und fremde Musik zeigen. Trotz ihrer einfachen Grundstruktur enthalten die rasch populär gewordenen Stücke zahlreiche für den französischen Komponisten typische harmonische und rhythmische Raffinessen - "Kindermusik", die auch bestens für Erwachsene geeignet ist.

The Fantaisie Op. 79 for flute and piano was composed in 1898 by Gabriel Fauré (1845-1924). He dedicated this beautiful miniature masterpiece to the famous flautist Claude Paul Taffanel, and it has since become a staple of the flute repertoire. Die Fantaisie op. 79 für Flöte und Klavier wurde 1898 von Gabriel Fauré (1845-1924) komponiert. Er widmete dieses wunderschöne Miniatur-Meisterwerk dem berühmten Flötisten Claude Paul Taffanel, und seitdem ist es ein fester Bestandteil des Flötenrepertoires.

Die beiden Originalstücke Faurés für Flöte und Klavier - die Fantaisie op.79 und Morceau de lecture (Sarabande) - erscheinen hier im Urtext neben Arrangements andererWerke, die entweder bekannte orchestrale Flötensoli enthalten oder besonders gut für die Flötegeeignet sind. Der Unterschied zwischen diesen Transkriptionen und Faurés Original-Flötenstücken ist weniger klar umrissen, als es zunächst den Anschein haben mag. Nicht nurstehen Auszüge aus der Fantaisie neben der Sicilienne in Faurés Bühnenmusik zu Pelléas etMélisande (in beiden Fällen mit einer Soloflöte), sondern die Sicilienne liegt auch in mehrerenanderen lnstrumentalbearbeitungen Faurés vor. Über die Pavane weiß man, daß Fauré neben derOrchesterversion mit Soloflöte und Chor ad libitum eine Klavierfassung mit oder ohneFlötenobligato bzw. Sänger (siehe unten) aufgeführt hat. Diese Anpassungsfähigkeit ist einintegralet Bestandteil französischer Musik, und das Wesentliche dabei ist - wie Ravel bemerkt hat-, daß der gute Geschmack gewahrt bleibt.

This is an unabridged digitally-enhanced reprint of the vocal score that was prepared by the composer with assistance from his student Jean Roger-Ducasse and published by J. Hamelle & Cie. in 1900. Measure numbers have been added along with a table of contents and instrumentation. The large (A4) format is extremely easy to read for singers, choruses and pianists. This is Faure's final version the Requiem, whose accompaniment was expanded to full symphony orchestra from the original version for organ and chamber ensemble. This version received its premiere on July 12, 1900 in Paris' Trocadéro auditorium with the voices, chorus and orchestra conducted by Paul Taffanel. It is the version that is by far the most widely performed and recorded, and performed at the composer's funeral in 1924.
