- Opera In Three Acts (1895)
222,95 kr. Samson and Delilah is an opera in three acts composed by the French composer Camille Saint-Saens. It was first performed in 1877 and is based on the biblical story of Samson and Delilah. The opera tells the story of the Israelite hero Samson, who falls in love with the Philistine seductress Delilah. Delilah, who is working for the Philistines, uses her beauty to seduce Samson and discover the secret of his strength. Once she learns that his strength comes from his hair, she has it cut off while he sleeps, leaving him powerless. The Philistines capture Samson and put him in chains, but he eventually regains his strength and destroys the temple of the Philistine god Dagon, killing himself and his enemies in the process. The opera features some of Saint-Saens' most famous music, including the aria ""Mon coeur s'ouvre a ta voix"" (My heart opens to your voice), which is often performed as a stand-alone piece. Samson and Delilah is considered one of the greatest French operas of the 19th century and remains a popular work in the operatic repertoire. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
