176,95 kr. ""Primeval Christianity"" by Alvin Boyd Kuhn is a comprehensive study of the origins and development of Christianity. The book explores the historical and cultural context in which Christianity emerged, tracing its roots back to the ancient mystery religions of Egypt and Greece. 128,95 kr. Science has been considered religion's most formidable enemy. On the contrary it is destined to be religion's savior and redeemer. Religion has sunk to abject impotence in the life of humanity because it has abandoned science in the ancient day, suppressed and thwarted science in its late medieval and modern resurgence and looked at it with jealousy in the whole period of its manifestation. All in all it is an amazing and nearly incredible story and it has never been told in the glaring light of its full revelation hitherto. The gist of the broad sweeping truth in the foregoing statements can be compacted in the one comprehensive affirmation that religion in very early times turned from the exploitation of its highest values in the world of the natural and sought them in the field of the supernatural. It shifted the area of its operations and realizations from the regular and common procedure of cosmic law over to the realm of the magical and the miraculous. No founder of a religion was considered to have presented adequate credentials until he had demonstrated his power to work "miracles". If he could not heal the sick and maimed, the lame and blind, he did not come properly certified as an authentic proclaimer of the power of God. The prime word in all religion became "conversion". Religion was considered to be doing its work when it transformed a natural man over into a person who had put himself in contact with a power outside himself which would take him out of nature and bless him with adventitious and exceptional influences. The field of religion came to be regarded as lying not in the world of commonplace events under nature, but reaching into an area of special dispensation, of extraordinary manifestation, of transcendental causality. Religion was to take a man out of the world and make him a citizen of a diviner kingdom, in which he would no longer be amenable to the currents and forces that affect the man of the natural world, but would enjoy an immunity from them along with a liberty stated by revered Scriptures to be the unique portion of the elect and the redeemed. Religion thus aimed to liberate its votaries from the sluggish bondage to the natural and elevate them to a state of blessedness in a boundless freedom in the world of spirit. There are grounds for comprehending the course of this development in world religion and seeing it, in part at least, as the inevitable result of forces generated from given historical situations and working ahead in wrong directions. Nevertheless it represents tragic misfortune for mankind. Our concern here is to demonstrate that it was in toto due to religion's defection from and hostility to science. - Alvin Boyd Kuhn

118,95 kr. Preface: Among those revered and cherished repositories of ancient arcane wisdom which have transmitted the enlightenment of demi-gods from age to age the myth of Genesis holds an important place. And no less certainly can it be asserted that the loss of its true esoteric meaning, along with that of other similarly cryptic oracles of truth and wisdom, has been the cause of a vast befuddlement of the mind of western nations for some fifteen centuries. When, about the third century, the early Christian movement revolted viciously against the whole ancient system of imparting truth and knowledge in secret to disciplined recipients only, in the Arcane Brotherhoods and Mystery Schools, and discarded in consequence the allegorical interpretation of the myths, substituting a purely literal rendering and turning the figures of a spiritual drama into "historical" characters, the great ancient light of knowledge passed under an eclipse from which it has not by any means emerged even now. Except in the marvelous development of mechanics, we are still under the cloud of the Dark Ages. Philosophically, spiritually, we have not recovered what was once known - and lost. And perhaps the sorriest feature of the situation is that the mass of people, and even the leaders of orthodox religionism are neither aware of our having lost precious truth, nor can they be told convincingly that it is so.

128,95 kr. The "common man" knows in a vague way the massive fact that the modern mind has made more progress in precise and profound knowledge of life and matter in the last century than it had been able to make in more than two thousand years previous to this epoch. He is at times disposed to wonder at this surprising phenomenon, but it is not likely to occur to him at any time what might be the historical rationale underlying and explaining the event itself. And he would have to read a work like Andrew D. White's great two-volume History of the Warfare Between Science and Theology in Christendom to have had his eyes opened to the realization of a mighty fact of sixty generations of Western history, which would be likely to stagger his thinking beyond measure. He would, by such a work - along with others that would further strengthen its force - come to understand at last that a brutal, if sanctimonious, power dominant in the West for over eighteen hundred years held the mind of the entire Occident in leash, and with summary vengeance crushed down every movement of that mind toward the grasp of truth in the realm of scientific fact. And finally there would crash through into his intellect the explosive realization that this searching, prying mind of Western man has achieved more knowledge that can lift human life immeasurably, in the hundred years since it has been free from ecclesiastical tyranny, and able to think and broadcast its findings, than it had won in all previous history. And if the logic of events had its course with him, he would conclude at last that the age-long despotism of priestcraft in European history has been the most blighting calamity that ever afflicted assumedly civilized humanity. Gulled by the natural influences of pietism and sanctity traditionally flaunted before the mass mind by religionists, he would never have sensed the diabolical character of religious tyranny, had not science demonstrated what the free mind could accomplish, once it had thrown off the trammels and shackles of churchly [Page 4] prohibition. Fifty years of freedom - and science has advanced the human race in vital knowledge farther than it had ever progressed in all previous time! It took this astounding development of modern achievement to tear the veil of pious blindness and submissiveness from off the common man's eyes, and to reveal to his unobstructed vision the ugliness and falsity of two thousand years of futile religious hallucination for his world of the West. The Dark Ages indeed! And science, crushed to earth for long generations, is seen rising at last to lift the pall of superstitious pietism from off the mind of Western man, to let it prove its immortal divine genius.

He also proposed that the Bible was symbolic and did not depict real events, and argued that the leaders of the church started to misinterpret the bible at the end of the third century. These controversial ideas outside of mainstream history and theology are rejected by most pre-eminent scholars, but many including Tom Harpur and John G. Jackson were influenced by the works of Kuhn. Harpur even dedicated his best-selling 2004 book, "The Pagan Christ" to Kuhn, calling him "a man of immense learning and even greater courage" and "one of the single greatest geniuses of the twentieth century" [who] "towers above all others of recent memory in intellect and his understanding of the world's religions."
