Alessia's Journey

- In search of Wittgenstein

Bag om Alessia's Journey

The book centres on conversations between Alessia, a student, and the various characters she encounters in the course of her travels. These conversations cover some of the main themes in philosophy, such as how we can know facts about the world, happiness, God, life's purpose and right and wrong; many concern ideas about language, thought and meaning that occupied Ludwig Wittgenstein and his contemporaries and shaped much of twentieth century philosophy. Alessia embarks on a quest to find Wittgenstein, who believed he had resolved all the problems of philosophy and had no more work to do. The main characters she encounters are all real historical figures and the conversations she has are set in a narrative of substantially true historical events.About the AuthorWilliam Godwin read philosophy at UCL and graduated first class before obtaining the BPhil at Oxford University and then a DPhil in the philosophy of language. He combined graduate work with teaching philosophy to undergraduates. He lives and works in London.
